Jeremy Guscott sticks the boot into Andy Farrell. Again.

Faz Jerry Guscott really gets on my nerves.  Whatever the pros and cons of Andy Farrell's inclusion in the England Rugby World Cup squad, and there are plenty of both, Guscott cannot resist having a pop at the former GB Rugby League captain.

This all started some months ago when Jerry and old mucker Will Carling decided that they didn't like Farrell, not for rugby reasons you understand, but because he was somehow undeserving of a place in the national side.  This smacks of Stuart Barnes's assertions on Jason Robinson's cross-code move that he would "eat his hat" should Robinson play for England and the Lions.  How I would have loved to have been the one passing him the salt at the end of 2003 while his smug, chubby jowels were gnawing on a trilby.

Guscott has never let it lie with Farrell, and has not let let an opportunity go by to whinge about it again, "I think the experiment, as I would call it, with Andy has run its course. Once upon a time he was a world-class player and obviously has a great reputation in rugby league."  Note he gives no reasons as to why.  Interestingly, he has no problem with Lawrence Dallaglio being selected on reputation.

Guscott shows his hand too easily I feel: he simply does not like rugby league, and does not believe that any talent shown in that game can be taken for granted as talent in Union.  I wonder if he felt the same way when Scott Gibbs was smashing his way through the South African defence in 1997?  RL fans are often accused of having their minds closed to RU due to a massive chip on both shoulders, but Guscott is as guilty as anyone here.  What do you reckon Mudsters?
