Rugby Video: Wales 12 - 33 Australia, highlights

We were all looking forward to this one weren't we?  We're all a bit disappointed now aren't we?  But only to a certain extent, because as much as we all wanted a competitive game, we still got to see some brilliant rugby - the issue for Wales being that it was all from the Aussies.

Make no mistake, this was as humiliating a dismantling as any. Wales looked toothless, ponderous and perhaps most shocking of all, clueless with the ball as proved by their 43 phases in the Aus 22 without ever looking like scoring.  It was probably the worst way to end an up til now indifferent series.

I was in a bar in London after interviewing Phil Vickery and I got talking to an Aussie, who was bemoaning how awful the side was at present, I had to politely disagree with him (well, as politely as I could after seven pints). It was always a matter of time with this current crop of players, and any Wallaby side with a decent tight five will be one of the best around as they never struggle for backs.  It looks like they have found that five, and in Pocock they may have found the open-side of the next decade.

You had to feel for Dwayne Peel, he tried his heart out all game in the midst of forwards to couldn't recycle a tin can, backs who decided not to run off him and a scrum that went backwards quicker and with greater force than Lesley Vainikolo's international career.

There was a feeling that Wales went backwards a bit in the last Six Nations, and on this evidence (admittedly with injuries) this decline is gathering momentum.  The Aussies on the other hand are doing the very opposite.

Thanks to the ever wonderful Green And Gold Rugby for the highlights.
