bloodandmud.com Team of the Decade: Wingers
You have picked Jason Robinson as the full-back, with Chris Latham coming in second. Now it's time to pick some wingers; the deadly due who will score loads of tries, but also be able to actually tackle someone and kick as well - hence the absence of Ben Cohen from the selection. Pick two wingers from the list, which is after the jump, due to its absurd length, and I still reckon I've missed a few.
You will notice that Jason Robinson is also in this list as well, as he was an either/or when he played, depending on how he scores in this one he may lose his place at full-back. (Also, let's face it Latham was a better FB. Fact)

Given the way the voting seems to be going, shall we just call it quits and say team of the decade is 15 Jason Robinsons?

Dunc,
Tuqiri is the leading Aussie winger of the past 5 years, therefore he warrants a place on the list. The beauty of this system is that you are not required to vote for him...
Brighty, quit your jibber jabber!

15 Jason Robinson's? How about 15 Iain Balshaw's?!

Looking forward to what you all say about the centres! :-)

Why no caucau?

Dan Luger??? Seriously? The guy was so one-dimensional it was untrue - just because you can run fast past some Scottish players does not make you any good. He very nearly cost England the 2003 World Cup with his performance against Wales - one of his clearing kicks actually went backwards.
Like the poster above Caucau had more talent in his little toe than half of this list put together.

Bam Bam beat me too it. Dan Luger. He was Englands worst player when they won the world cup.
He then promptly disappeared in Perpignan.

AS I said above I knew I would miss someone, hence there is the "other" option - Caucau is obviously a glaring oversight.
The list was based on picking 2-3 players from each leading rugby nations plus the best of the rest, so there will be some stronger contenders than others, and by the time I got to the best of the rest my brain was hurting and so Caucau did not compute. And I honestly could not think of a Scottish winger to put in, Sean Lamont perhaps, but beyond that?
As I say above, you are not required or forced to vote for the players you think are SHIT, just the two who you believe are the most GOOD.

I presume Billy Twelvetrees will be nominated for both centre positions and fly half?

what about Balshawl and Lomu....
Posted by: Stu | Dec 17, 2009 7:27:16 PM
At a stretch, possibly Chris Patterson could be the aforsaid Scottish winger? Hes not going to win any game time (previerbially), but at least hes less SHIT than Dan Luger.

Too many choices.
Best dan luger moment was a try against south africa from the england try line, started celebrating at the half way line, realised he was getting caught then had to put his head down and leg it

May I politely ask WHERE IS RUPENI CAUCAUNIBUCA?
Posted by: nobby | Dec 18, 2009 11:05:23 AM
Oh, ah, erm, hadn't seen your post. But still, come on, Shane Horgan? Aurélien Rougerie? Joe Roff? Lote Tuqiri???
Posted by: nobby | Dec 18, 2009 11:08:31 AM
Roff was class. Won the Lions series on his own for Australia in 2001, at a time when the Aussies were in decline and the Lions were composed of the best team in the world with BoD added in. Retired at 12 years of age with 322 caps.
But I'd still pick Rupeni. The try he scored for the Blues when in the pissing rain he scoops the ball of the floor, dances though the defence, hits the gas, draws the man, passes to Howlett, who does not have the pace to beat the last man, so Howlett passes back to Rupeni who then burns them both to the line. Gold.
